In Washington, she was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and had served on the church council. Sally was an enthusiast bridge player and enjoyed playing golf. She was active in Child Guidance Club and the PTA.
Sally and her husband Bob were apart during World War II and understood the pain of separation a family endures during wartime. Sally was known to say that she had so much empathy for the families who have love ones in the armed services that are left alone during periods of conflict.

Sally was known to reflect on over seventy years of marriage that the family that prays together, stays together. Love, dedication to family, a commitment to each other and to marriage; the similar backgrounds of Sally and Bob contributed to their lasting relationship.
