STUART S. DEFOREST, Sr., 92, a Hingham resident since 1946, died on Saturday, March 27th, 2010 at the Renaissance Gardens at Linden Ponds in Hingham. Mr. DeForest was born in Quincy, was a 1936 graduate of Thayer Academy in Braintree and a 1940 graduate of Harvard University. He served with destinction with the United States Navy in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He continued his military career in the Naval Reserves retiring as a Captain after over 21 years of service. He was treasurer and a sales executive with Stimpson, Inc. in Boston, a paper products distributing company, retiring in 1981. In addition, he was a member of the Hingham Historical Society where he also served as clerk for many years.
Husband of the late Patricia S. (Cox) DeForest and the late Jean D. (MacBride) DeForest; he leaves his son, Stuart S. DeForest, Jr.; and daughter, Lilias S. DeForest both of Boston. He was the brother of the late Samuel D. DeForest, Jr. and the late Jean D. Kurtz.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Wednesday, March 31st at 11:30 AM at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, 172 Main St., Hingham.
Friends may visit at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Tuesday from 4-8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02115.
The interment is to be private.
