Craven, John J. of Norwood, a retired Boston Police Officer, passed away March 26, 2010 at Caritas Norwood Hospital at the age of 86.
Beloved husband of the late Mary P. (McMahon) Craven. Devoted father of Barbara & her husband Ronald Chapman of Hull, Joan & her husband Mark Butler of Norwich, CT, and the late John J. Craven, Jr. "Papa Joe" was grandfather to Holly, Amanda, Colleen, and the late Thomas; and also 2 great grandchildren, Kevin and Makayla. John was predeceased by brothers Thomas and Richard, and sisters Dolly and Mary.
He was a U.S. Coast Guard Veteran of World War II and served on the Boston Police Department for thirty years retiring in 1980 from Station 5 Hyde Park. John was a former member of the Boston Police Patrolman’s Association. He also was an avid reader and history buff.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visitation on Wednesday 10 AM - 11 AM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM followed by a Funeral Service at 11 AM.
Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury.
