Lucien D. Stevenin, 88, formerly of School St., North Smithfield, died Thursday evening at Woodpecker Hill Nursing Home in Greene, RI. He was the husband of the late Therese M. (Bessette) Stevenin.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Desire and Delima (Boudreau) Stevenin. He was a resident of Woonsocket for most of his life, lived almost 20 years in North Smithfield, and resided with his family in Coventry for the past 2 years.
Mr. Stevenin served in the Army during WWII in the European Theater.
Following his service, he was employed as a supervisor at Bonin Spinning and later as a welder at Nelmore Co. He also worked in management at the Hi-View Motel.
Lucien loved cooking and took great pride in preparing meals for family and friends.
He was a devoted grandfather and treasured his special relationship with his grandson Jeffrey. He gave unselfishly of himself in caring for Jeffrey’s needs and they shared a special bond as best friends.
He is survived by a daughter, Colette C. Pennington, and her husband Richard, three grandchildren, Jeffrey J. Pennington and Nicole M. Cadarelli, and her husband Brian, all of Coventry, and Gregg S. Pennington, and his wife Jessica, of Exeter, and four great- grandchildren, May and Luke Pennington, and Ronin and Wyatt Cadarelli.
His funeral will be Monday at 9:00 am from the Menard Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. John the Evangelist Church, Church St., Slatersville. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Precious Blood Cemetery, Woonsocket. Visiting hours are Sunday from 3:00–7:00 pm.
