Alfonso “Fonz” H. Magliaro, 90 of Medway died March 24 in his home following a long illness, he was the husband of Grace A. (Capobianco) Magliaro for 64 years, Mrs. Magliaro died the next day.
Born in Boston, December 10, 1919, the son of the late Pasquale and Maria (Giannelli) Magliaro, Mr. Magliaro was raised in the North End and lived in West Roxbury for many years until moving to Medway in 1975.
Mr. Magliaro had owned and operated with his son and grandsons Tri Valley Sports in Medway from 1986 until recently.
He had previously owned the Galen Shoe Company in Boston.
Mr. Magliaro served in the Coast Guard during World War II.
He served on the LST 830 in the Pacific and saw action in the Invasion of Okinawa for which he was awarded the bronze star.
Mr. Magliaro was a member of the Medway VFW. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to him.
He is survived by his son Allen J. Magliaro and his wife Sheila of Upton, his grandchildren Christopher Magliaro and his wife Tiffany and David Magliaro and his wife Tonia.
He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ayden, Isabella, Joseph, Ethan, Oliver and Sophia.
He was the brother of the late Anthony, Alfred, Joseph, Celia, and Maria Magliaro and Lucy Casali.
His funeral along with his wife’s will be held on Tuesday, March 30 from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. Medway at 9:15 followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Medway.
Calling hours will be on Monday from 4-8 p.m.
