Obituary

Richard M. Butland, 71, of Haverhill, passed away on Wednesday March 24, 2010 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill after a short and accepting battle with pancreatic cancer.
Richard was born in Cranford, NJ. He served with the United States Coast Guard. Richard worked as a consultant, project manager and spent most of his career selling golf clubs as the number one Sales Associate at Whirlaway Golf & Sport Center. He was PING fitter of the Year. He was a dedicated member of St. Augustine’s Church in Andover and also found great strength through his roots as a Christian Scientist. Richard was an avid golfer and a former member of the Andover Country Club. His love of cooking inspired his niece Megan to pursue a career as a chef. Richard’s greatest love was his family and his dear wife “Marjie,” of 45 years, who passed shortly before him on Tuesday at the Lawrence General Hospital.
Besides his wife, Marjorie K. Minter, Richard is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Beverly (Morgan) Butland and his stepfather Ellsmore E. McKeige. He leaves his two children, Alison Pyott and her husband Christopher of Portsmouth, NH and Timothy Butland of S. Burlington, VT, a sister, Anne Beuttner of CA, a niece, Amy Carlson and her husband Fred, two nephews, Jonathan Beuttner and his wife Cheryl and Doug Beuttner, and great-nieces and nephews, Heather and Megan Carlsen, and Lauren, Zachary and Morgan Beuttner.
Friends are invited to call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday March 26, 2010 at the Charles F. Dewhirst Andover Funeral Home, 33 Pearson St., Andover, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held in celebration of Marjorie and Richard Butland at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Augustine’s Church, Andover. Burial will follow at St. Augustine’s Cemetery, Andover. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Merrimack Valley Hospice and VNA, 360 Merrimack Street, Bldg 9, Lawrence, MA 01843.
