Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Carlton L. Doyle, 79, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 25, 2010.
Born in Gloucester on September 14, 1930, he was the son of the late Lewis and Mary (Carrigan) Doyle. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Ann’s Parish, now Holy Family Parish, where he was an altar boy as a young man.
A graduate of Gloucester High School class of 1947, Carlton was a bookkeeper and tax preparer for small businesses and individual clients until illness forced him to retire in 2009. He was fortunate to have many of his clients become his dear, life-long friends.
He umpired for many youth baseball leagues in Gloucester, on Cape Ann and around the North Shore. He also enjoyed playing his piano and electric organ. His storytelling, sharing of opinions and engaging in lengthy conversations on just about any subject will be missed by those in his circle of friends as he made the rounds every day.
Carlton was thankful for his family, childhood and new friends; caring neighbors; his dear tenants; Sully and the guys down the garage; the folks down at Jim’s; friends at The Open Door; and the directly-sent-from-God, nurses both at Addison Gilbert Hospital SAU and the wonderful nursing team who cared for him until the end.
Missing Carlton already are his sister, Madelyn Dagle and niece, Lois Dagle, niece, Linn (Doyle) Parisi and her husband, Nick Parisi, nephews, Neal Dagle and Barry Dagle, and many great nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother, Philip L. Doyle, sister-in-law, Elinor M. Doyle, brother-in-law, Spencer Dagle, niece, Lee Dagle, nephews, Bruce Doyle and Wayne Doyle, his special aunt, Harriet Carrigan and uncles, Everett, Philip, Richard, and Francis Carrigan.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning at Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carlton’s name to The Open Door, 28R Emerson Ave., Gloucester, MA 01930.
