Obituary

Joan E. (Mahoney) Hicks, 85, of Dartmouth died Monday March 22, 2010 in Maryland after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Attorney Edward D. Hicks.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Dr. John F. and Carol W. (Murphy) Mahoney, she lived in Dartmouth for many years.

Many years ago, Mrs. Hicks had been employed as a secretary to Victor Berlitz in New York City and as a clerk in the District Attorney's office in New Bedford. She later worked as a Spanish teacher at Bishop Stang High School.

She was a graduate of Skidmore College and received her Master's Degree in Education from Boston University.

Mrs. Hicks was active in the Old Dartmouth Historical Society and served as docent at the New Bedford Whaling Museum.

Survivors include her daughter, Cristina H. Landskroener and her husband R. Bruce Landskroener of Worton, MD; two sisters, Carol Kelleher of Cleveland, OH, and Marcia Mahoney of San Francisco, CA; and two grandchildren, Erica and Nathan Landskroener.

She was the mother of the late Andrew D. Hicks, and sister of the late John F. Mahoney, Jr.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 AM in St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth. Burial will follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery. Her family will receive visitors at the Church on Saturday beginning at 9:30AM.
