TAUNTON – Maria (Alberto) DeEscobar, wife of Joao DeEscobar, died at Morton Hospital on March 23, 2010.
She was 84. Born in Fayal, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Clarimundo and Maria (Goulart) Alberto.
Raised and educated in Portugal, she moved to the area in 1972. Mrs. DeEscobar was employed by the Corcoran Shoe Co. for many years, before retiring in 1990.
She was a communicant of Annunciation of the Lord Church, and enjoyed gardening in her spare time.
Besides her husband of Taunton, she leaves a son, Jose A. Escobar and his wife Teresa of Taunton; five grandchildren, Silvia Lander of Taunton, Suzete Marquis of Rehoboth, Christine Lema of Berkley, and Michelle and Diane Escobar, both of Fayal; a daughter-in-law, Fatima Escobar of Fayal; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late Joao M. Escobar.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, on Saturday, March 27th at 8 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at Annunciation of the Lord Church at 9 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 26th from 5 to 8 p.m.
