Rudolph J. "Rudy" Satlak, a longtime resident of Arlington, died on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Belmont Manor Nursing Home in Belmont following an extended illness. He was 87 years old.
Rudy was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on May 24, 1922. Rudy graduated from Boston College in 1956 and recieved his Masters Degree from Boston University the same year. He was a retired Newton North High School teacher and administrator. He was a business education teacher, administrative assistant and chairman of the business department at Newton North High School, retiring in 1990. Rudy was on the forefront of the computer age. He developed and taught the first keypunch and computer-programming courses at Newton North High School. One of his special projects in the field of early computer technology was having his students build thier own operational computer. In 1968 he was selected as a merit teacher. Rudy served in the United States Navy as a celestial navigator, an instructor and in a Port Director Unit in the Pacific during World War ll. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Rudy is the beloved husband of the late Frances J. (Fitzpatrick) Satlak. He is the devoted father of Elaine Satlak of Ashland, Janice Satlak-Mott of Winchester, Carole Satlak of Wakefield and Joseph Satlak and his wife Candace of Belmont. He is the loving grandfather of Jonathan Mott of Winchester. He is the brother of Henry Satlak of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and James Satlak of Washington, D.C.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Rudy's Funeral Mass on Monday, March 22, 2010 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 155 Washington St. Winchester. Burial will be at the Veterans Administration National Cemetery in Bourne at 1 p.m.
