Salem: Mary Ann (Beaupre) Demers, age 99 of Salem, died Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at the Lafayette Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Home in Marblehead just 3 weeks short of her 100th birthday. She was the wife of the late Samuel A. Demers.
Born and raised in Canada, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Marie Luce (Beaulieu) Beaupre. Mary Ann came to Salem in 1935 and in 1937 she and Sam were married. In 1941 she began working as a fur finisher for the former Rooks Furs of Salem and later worked part time for Margolis Furrier of Salem. She retired from Margolis in 1965.
Mary Ann was a member of the former St. Joseph Parish of Salem as well as a member of Les Dames de la Ste. Famille of that parish. A quiet and gentle woman, she was devoted to her family and always maintained a very close relationship with her family in Canada.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol A. Poussard and her husband Bertram of Salem, a sister, Bertha Moisan of Drumondville P.Q., 4 grandchildren, David Poussard, Brian Poussard and his wife Stephanie and Cathy Lazdowski and her husband Paul all of Salem, Elaine DeMarco and her husband Nicholas of New Jersey. She is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren, Michael, Nicole & Samantha DeMarco all of New Jersey as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Rose Ann Dion, Marie Laure Landry & Imelda Harrison, and her brothers, Carmel, Phillippe & Jules Beaupre.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday, March 22, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem to be followed by her funeral mass in Ste. Anne Church, Jefferson Ave., Salem at 11 a.m. Visiting hours: Sunday 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
