Horace C. Girard, 92, formerly of Burnside Ave, Woonsocket, died Wednesday at St. Antoine Residence. He was the husband of the late Suzanne L. (Mandeville) Girard who died in 2003.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Wilfrid and Theophita (Hogue) Girard. He was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Girard served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII in the European Theater. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, Victory Medal, and American Theater Campaign Ribbon, and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Mr. Girard was employed by Crosby Valve Co. in Wrentham for many years.
Horace was an ardent Red Sox fan.
He is survived by a brother, Normand Girard of Blackstone, a sister Lillian Girard of Woonsocket, and his extended family including several generations of nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Albert, Rosario, Renaldo, Charles, and Daniel Girard, Cecile Mullery, and Beatrice Leduc.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10:00 am in Precious Blood Church, Carrington Ave., Woonsocket. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are Monday morning from 8:15-9:45 am, prior to Mass, in the Menard Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket.
