Francis L. McGovern, III, 72 of North Scituate, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday. He is survived by his loving wife Carole L. (Kettelle) to whom he was married for 45 years.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Francis L. II and Margaret (Stewart) McGovern. He is also survived by his daughters, Kelly A. Hunter of West Warwick and Jamie L. M. Grissom and her husband, Christopher of Glocester, three grandchildren, Nathan J. Leveille, Lindsey M. Grissom and Victoria F. Grissom. He will also be sadly missed by his “pal” Morgan. He was the brother of Patricia Wilson of Riverside and the late Margaret Brown.
Frank was a 1964 graduate of the Maine Maritime Academy. He had over 44 years of experience as an expert in Safety, Environmental Health and Risk Management. He was most recently the Safety and Risk Management consultant for New England Institute of Technology. He was a compliance officer for OSHA and member of a variety of professional organizations including being a founding member of the both the RI College and University Public Safety Directors and the RI College and University Risk Manager Associations. He was the author of numerous safety and risk management publications. Frank was a member of several state level governmental committees including the Attorney General’s Arson Task Force. During his career he received eleven National Safety Council awards for his work at URI. He was most recently listed in Who’s Who in the East for 2009-2010. His most recent project was involvement in the development of New England Tech’s new campus in East Greenwich. Frank was involved for many years in state and local Republican politics and was a former member of the North Scituate Fire Dept. He enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with his family.
Funeral service Thursday, March 18, at 11:00 AM in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Visitation Wednesday 3-7 PM. Burial is private.
