Joao H. deMendonca, 91, died Saturday, March 13 at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Julia (Mendonca) Mendonca. Born in Flores, in the Azores islands of Portugal, he was raised there and moved to the United States in 1966 and settled in Stoughton. He worked as a barber while living Flores. Mr. deMendonca worked for Stoughton Elastic Web for over 18 years, before retiring many years ago. He was a member of the San Joao Filharmonic Society in Stoughton. In his free time, he enjoyed making wine, fishing and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Fatima Correia of Portugal, Filomena Anderson and Robert M. Mendonca both of Stoughton. He was the brother of Luisa America of Stoughton and the late Jose Mendonca and Maria Avelar. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, March 17 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Tuesday 5-8 PM.
