Gary Richardson, 58

Dateline: East Bridgewater, MA

Gary Richardson, 58, of East Bridgewater formerly of Brockton and Mansfield passed away surrounded by the love and support of his family at the home of his sister in East Sandwich on Saturday March 13, 2010, following a courageous battle with Mucosal Melanoma.
Born in Norwood, MA on February 12, 1952 he was loving son of Kenneth and Cleo N. (Fulp) Richardson of Sandwich.
A Mansfield native, Gary was educated in Mansfield schools and was a 1970 graduate of Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School in Easton. For 38 years he was a Design Draftsman having worked at Codman, a division of Johnson & Johnson in Raynham. He designed medical instruments used by Orthopedic Surgeons and was the proud holder of 2 patterns he developed.
When younger and along with his family, he attended the Mansfield Congregational Church and was a former member of the Mansfield Jaycees.
Gary’s passion in life was the “wild blue yonder“. He was an avid remote control plane enthusiast of which he built and flew radio controlled aircrafts. He was a member and served as the safety officer for the Westbridge RC Flying Club in Bridgewater. He had also taken flight lessons at the Mansfield Airport in pursuit of obtaining his pilots license.
Gary also had a lifelong interest in model trains and at the time of his death was adapting and building a miniature railroad. His other interests included photography and both fresh water and salt water fishing.
He was a gentle kind man who enjoyed spending time with family and had a special place in his heart for animals. A resident of East Bridgewater for the past year he had formerly lived in Brockton for over 15 years.
In addition to his loving parents, he was the devoted brother of Gail A. Moon and her husband Tom of East Sandwich Ginny A. Lapham and her husband Fred of Mansfield, Kathy F. Maurer and her husband Hank of Mansfield and Cinde A. Gomes and her partner Jimmy Giovaniello of North Attleboro. He is also survived by 3 nieces, 3 nephews, 1 grand nephew and his faithful cat “Shorty”
Memorial services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday March 20th at 10:00 a.m. in the Mansfield Congregational Church 17 West Street Mansfield. Private burial will be at a later date in the Spring Brook Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday March 19th from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, Gary’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to Season Hospice and Palliative Care 275 Grove St. Suite 3-100 Newton, MA 02466 or Hospice of Cape Cod 765 Attucks Lane Hyannis, MA 02601.
