Obituary

Charles F. McCarthy, Jr., 79 years, of North Easton, died peacefully March 12, 2010, at Hearthstone Alzheimer Care, Brockton after a period of failing health. He was the loving husband of Alice B. (Kent) McCarthy for 57 years. A lifelong resident of North Easton, he was the son of the late Charles F. and Kathleen E. (Konop) McCarthy. He was a graduate of Oliver Ames High School, class of 1948 and the University of Notre Dame, class of 1952. He was an army veteran of the Korean Conflict, who served with the 101st Airborne Division "Screaming Eagles". Following his service in the army, he worked for Associated Transport until 1960 and then with his father for several years at H. Maynard Gould Company. From 1978 to present he has worked with his sons and daughter for Sunbird Transportation in East Walpole. He was a long serving member of the Board of Directors for the Mass Motor Transport Association, North Easton Savings Bank for over 40 years, Oakes Ames Memorial Hall and Natural Resources Trust of Easton. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Easton, the Easton Historical Society, American Legion, Brockton Ski Club, National Ski Patrol and the Beverly Yacht Club. He was a lifelong communicant of Immaculate Conception Church. Charlie was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was a gentleman and loyal friend who had a great sense of humor, loved life and lived it to the fullest. He enjoyed horseback riding, skiing, hiking, sailing, gardening and travel. He was known for his love of music and would play the piano and ukulele for friends and family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Maura J. McCarthy of Lebanon, Maine, Charles F. “Chuck” McCarthy, III and Timothy C. McCarthy both of North Easton and Margaret “Meg” Deegan and her husband Greg of Cotuit; seven grandchildren, Charles “Chuckie” McCarthy, IV, Shauna McCarthy, Sean, Daniel and Ryan McCarthy and P. Michael and Kevin Crowley; a brother Dr. Philip E. McCarthy and his wife Jean of Dover, MA, a sister Kathleen E. McCarthy of Overland Park, Kansas and several nieces and nephews.

The McCarthy family wishes to extend their appreciation to Hearthstone Alzheimer’s Care and ASERCARE Hospice for their wonderful care and support of Charlie.

A Funeral Mass will be held in Immaculate Conception Church, 193 Main Street, North Easton, Tuesday, March 16, at 10am. Visiting Hours are omitted.
