Maria P. (Pacheco) Medeiros, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, March 10th, 2010 at a local healthcare facility in Lowell after a brief illness. For 69 years, she was the beloved wife of the late Antonio J. Medeiros who passed away on May 14, 2006.
She was born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal on July 9, 1919, the daughter of the late Manuel and Constantina (Costa) Pacheco DaSilva.
Maria and her husband were childhood friends while growing up in Sao Miguel, Azores. They eventually married and moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1958 to raise their family. She left Brazil to go the United States in 1967 to be with her daughter Zaida and son Antonio. Maria's husband and other daughter, Suzete soon followed in 1968. They eventually settled in Lowell where they have resided since 1971.
Before retiring, Maria was a packer with Commodore Foods in Lowell for 15 years and was also a seamstress, a job that soon turned into a hobby that she loved later in life.
She enjoyed gardening and reading and baking traditional Portugese sweet bread.. Most of all, Maria enjoyed crocheting and hand crafting beautiful articles of clothing for her children and grandchildren whom she adored.
Maria is survived by her son, Antonio T. Medeiros of Margate, FL; two daughters and a son-in-law, Zaida M. Zambom of Lowell and Suzete M. and Sergio G. Pires of Tewksbury; a brother, Jose P. Pacheco DaSilva and his wife Edmeia of Ontario, Canada; her grandchildren, Rosemarie Variz, Angela Faria, Lisa Teramina, all of Glouster, Osvaldo Zambom Filho and his wife Rachel of Groton, Olivia Zambom and her husband Daniel Surprenant of Dracut, Sergio A Pires and his wife Dawn of Lowell, Barry A Pires and his fiance Katie Lamarche of Lowell, Jennifer G Pacheco and her husband George of Nashua, NH; also great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was the grandmother of the late Antonio T. Medeiros, Jr. and John T. Medeiros.
MEDEIROS -- Relatives and friends may call at the M. R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell on Sunday, March 14 from 2 to 6 PM. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Anthony's Church, 893 Central St., Lowell. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
