Robert H. Mattson, 78, a life long resident of Abington, died ,Thursday March 11th ,surrounded by his family, after a short fight with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Lorraine A. (Waters) Mattson. Robert was born in Quincy, raised in Abington, son of the late William S. and Edna (Breault) Mattson. He was a graduate of Abington High School, class of 1951 and was also a member of the Abington Town League football team.
Robert enjoyed hunting, camping and gardening.
He worked at the Avon Building Supply for 35 years and retired in 1995.
He is survived by his children, Joyce Gunter and her husband Donald of Abington, Diane Collum and her husband Bobby of Wareham, Robert W. Mattson of Abington, his brother Edwin Mattson of Abington, his grandchildren, Donald Gunter, Jr., Shannon Gunter, Elisa Walsh, Sean Collum, Tamsin Collum, Olivia Mattson, Madeline Mattson, Robert W. Mattson, Jr. and his great grandchildren, Makayla and Michael Walsh as well as many nieces & nephews. He was also the brother of the late William Mattson.
His services will be held on Saturday March 13th at 5:00PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be held prior to his service from 2:00-5:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Shore Hospice, 100 Bay St., Braintree, MA 02184.
