John Louis Manning, Jr., 87, Clarksville, died Thursday, March 11, 2010, at his home. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 12 p.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born May 14, 1922 in Clarksville, TN. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. He was a World War II veteran serving on Saipan, a member of Clarksville Civitan Club, and founder of Orgain Ready Mix Concrete Company. He was preceded in death by his parents Lucy Orgain Manning and John Louis Manning; wife Angelyn Edmondson Manning; sisters, Martha M. Stuart and Frances M. Howell; and brothers, William J. Manning and Arthur E. Manning. He is survived by sons John L. Manning, III (Freida), James C. Manning (Martha), Winston Salem, NC; Robert E. Manning (Melissa) and Charles T. Manning (Vickie), Franklin, TN. He had four grandchildren, John Manning, IV (Meg); Janie Manning, Rock Hill, SC; Austin Manning and Cailin Manning, Franklin, TN and one great grandchild, John Manning, V (Jack). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews: Lucy H. McCutchen, Nancy J. Howell, Arthur E. Manning, Jr., Frances C. Dawson, (Scottsboro, AL), Gene C. Hayes (Littleton, CO), Dr. James W. Chambers (Russellville, KY), Thomas Manning (Virginia Beach, VA) and Robin Manning (Jacksonville, FL).
Elsie Sidwell and Lois Ann Howard were his devoted care givers.
Pallbearers will be Austin Peay, Arthur E. Manning, Jr., Dr, James W. Chambers, Dr. C.. Chapman, Larry McLeod, Dr. Tom Hartz, Thomas Manning, and Robin Manning, Honorary pallbearers will be William Ogles, Sr. Ray Darnell, and James E. Orgain, Sr.
