Mr. Willis “Fred” Chipman, 75 of Everett, died Wednesday in the Winchester Hospital . He was the husband of Stephanie (Catallo) Chipman with whom he shared more than 15 years of marriage. He was also the husband of the late Marie (Masucci) Chipman.
Born in Medford, son of the late Willis and Nellie (Thistle) Chipman, he was educated in Medford and is a graduate of Medford High School, class of 1952. In early days, he worked for the Stop & Shop Companies as a manager. This experience led him to other supermarket chains. A man with an entrepreneurial spirit, he opened his own store in East Boston, the former Fred’s Convenience Store.
For the past 12 years, he worked for Boston Coach as a chauffeur, a division of Fidelity, where he took great pride in providing service to his many customers who would request him. He was a regular driver for Ned Johnson, an officer of Fidelity. In his spare time he loved to listen to classical music and could be persuaded to attend a ballet or play, he loved to attend concerts at Tanglewood. He also enjoyed reading and driving. Mr. Chipman was a member of the Melrose Masons. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Debra Shynk of NH, Donna Vitale and her husband John of CT, Tiffany Dembro and her husband Vincent of Saugus,
three sons: Richard Chipman of Ware, Stephen Chipman and his wife Courtney of CA. and Angelo Carbone and his wife Deborah of Everett. Grandfather of 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Brother of Doris King of Rockport, Rita McKinley of Reading, Virginia Marlin and her husband of Reading. A memorial funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 14 at the Church Of The Good Shepherd, 95 Woburn Street, Reading at 1 PM, Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Fred’s name may be sent to the charity of your choice.
