Obituary

SALEM - Marjorie B. (Pierce) Comer, 86, of Salem, wife of the late Henry B. Comer, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers.

Born in Newburyport, she was the daughter of the late Daniel L. and Rachael E. (Douglas) Pierce. Marjorie was a graduate of Amesbury High School and the Essex Agricultural and Technical Institute.

A resident of Salem for most of her life, she was active in the community in many ways. A longtime member of the First Baptist Church, she often served on standing committees and in the planning of numerous events. As she was raising her children, she was a member of the former Pickering School PTA. She was active in Girl Scouting as an adult leader for over 40 years and was a member of the Starlight Lodge #64 of the Rebekah Assembly of Massachusetts, I.O.O.F., where she was a past Noble Grand and was the recipient of the Degree of Chivalry, the highest honor to be bestowed upon a member. She was a member and President of the Salem Protestant Women’s Association for over 35 years, The Naumkeag Associates and was well known for the dinners she prepared for various groups and organizations in the area.

Marjorie is survived by two sons, Robert D. Comer of Salem, Richard B. Comer and his wife Annette of Waltham, two daughters, Barbara L. Resnick of Salem, Debra Mallon of Beverly, eight grandchildren, Tina Moccia of Essex, Linette Moccia and Benjamin Comer of Salem, Eva and her husband Daniel Oliveira, Daniel and his wife Jessica Mallon, of Beverly, Petty Officer First Class Thomas Mallon, US Navy, stationed in Monterey, CA, Samantha Comer-Bartels and her husband Mario Bartels of Neumunster, Germany, Lindsey Comer of Waltham, eight great grandchildren, James Solovicos of Phoenix, AZ, Beverly Shanahan of Salem, Grace Oliveira, Luke Oliveira, Julia Mallon, Josh Mallon, all of Beverly, Emma Jean Bartels, Anthony Vincent Bartels, both of Neumunster, Germany, one sister and brother-in-law, Rachael and Henry Garand of Seabrook, NH and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Patricia A. “Pat” Comer, and sister of the late Shirley Chase, Daniel Pierce, Douglas Pierce and William Pierce.

A memorial service will be held at 7 pm, Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the First Baptist Church, 292 Lafayette St., Salem. A visitation will be held at the church from 5 to 7 pm, prior to the service.
