The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 13, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mrs. Slack was born on October 28, 1913 in Marietta (Prentiss County), Mississippi and was the daughter of William Alex Burns and Martha Florence Harris Burns, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, G. Leon Slack; and five brothers, Grafton, W. R., A. D., Ray and Horace Burns. Mrs. Slack and her husband moved to Tifton in 1952. For a long time, she was very active in Second Baptist Church of Tifton. Later, she joined the First Baptist Church of Tifton, where she was welcomed with open arms. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Mrs. Slack was a member of the Tifton Woman’s Club for many years; the Tifton Library Club; a member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Tift General Hospital for 14 years and was proud of the warm blankets that they supplied and, later, she used. She loved her family, her church, her community, and everyone she met. She also loved to cook.

Mrs. Slack leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter and son-in-law, Charline and David McElroy of Douglas; one sister, Mary Nell Mitchell of Arkansas; two loving grandchildren, Dr. Ted McElroy and his wife, Kristin, of Tifton and Hilary and Eddie Anderson of Douglas; and five adored great grandchildren, Jake, Luke and Avery Anderson and Alex and Hank McElroy; and several wonderful nieces and nephews.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund at Tifton’s First Baptist Church or Hospice of Tiftarea.
