Obituary

HOWARD S. MILLER, a Norwell resident for almost 40 years, passed away on Tuesday, March 9th, 2010 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was 82. Mr. Miller was born in Fall River and spent his early life in Freetown. He served with distinction in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, participating in the occupation of China and also during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Miller was a Past Vice President of the Thayer-McNeil Shoe Company in Boston prior to his coming to Hingham as owner and manager of the John Knox Shoe Co. In his later years, he managed the 'Scoop Ice Cream Store' also in Hingham. Mr. Miller was an active Mason as a member of Old Colony Masonic Lodge in Hingham and was also a 32nd Degree Mason. In addition, he was a Past President of the Marshfield Rotary Club and received the Paul Harris Award which is the highest award that can be achieved by a rotarian. He also was a Past President of the Board of Directors of Project Turnabout of Weymouth, formerly of Hingham.

He was the husband of Pamela (Smith) Miller and father of Jason R. Miller of Berkley, MA, Kerry A. Miller and his wife Joleen and Brett A. Miller and his wife Audrey all of Hanson and the late Craig S. Miller. Brother of Jason B. Miller of Boston. Also survived by his grandchildren; Corey, Hannah and Isabel.

Following cremation, the Services and Interment at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne are to be private.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend memorial visiting hours on Friday, March 12th from 4-7 PM at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory would be preferred to Project Turnabout, 861 Main St., So. Weymouth, MA 02190.
