Obituary

WORCESTER___Harold A. Bloom, 67, of Worcester, died Monday, March 8, 2010 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, 55 Lake Ave North.

He leaves his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Carol J. (Yurewicz) Bloom, two sons, Eric C. Bloom of Worcester and Andrew J. Bloom and his wife Lydia of Maynard; a daughter, Karen T. Simmons and her husband, Joseph of Worcester; four grandchildren, Alexander and Juliette Bloom and Katherine and Thomas Simmons, one niece and two nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, William J. Bloom. He was born in Worcester, a son of Harold C. and Virginia (Sootkoos) Bloom and was a lifelong city resident.

Mr. Bloom was a retired Worcester Fire Lieutenant. He became a firefighter in 1965 and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1975. He retired in 1997 after 32 years of service to the department. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Harold was a graduate of Commerce High School, class of 1960. He was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, the Worcester Fire Dept, I.A.F.F. Local 1009, the Worcester Firefighters Relief Association, the Worcester Retired Police & Firefighters Association, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and he was a member and past president of the Lithuanian War Veterans Organization.

The funeral will be held on Friday, March 12 from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street, with a Mass at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours in the funeral home are Thursday, March 11 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Local 1009, Worcester Firefighters Scholarship Fund, 625 Chandler St., Worcester, Ma., 01602
