Richard P. Hemmerdinger Sr., a Woburn resident since 1953, died at his home on Wednesday, October 8, at the age of eighty-five. He was the husband of the late Anna L. (McDonough) who died in 1992.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Cora (Steeves) and Harold Hemmerdinger. He was a graduate of Medford High School class of 1936. He then attended Middlesex Veterinary Academy for three years and left to serve his country during World War II, in the 101st Infantry Division of the US Army. He served in the Army for five years, then returned home to raise his family with his late wife Anna. They settled in Medford after the war, and later moved to Woburn
He worked as a quality control inspector at GE in Lynn, then with his wife Anna, started a family business in Winchester, The Pampered Pet Shop. Dick and Anna and their children ran this family business for over forty years, and made many close friends there.
Dick loved spending time with his family on Sunday rides and walks, camping and fishing trips. He loved his cabin in Vermont, gardening, birds and other hobbies, but his main love was his family.
Surviving are his three sons and their wives; Richard P. Jr. and his wife Bobbi of Saugus, Kris F. and his wife Regina, Jeffrey C. and his wife Patricia all of Woburn, two daughters and there husbands; Katherine Hillis and her husband John of Wakefiled, NH., Holly Cataldo and her husband Jim of Billerica. Also nine loving grandchildren and seven loving great grandchildren. A brother Harry Hemmerdinger of Berlin, MA and his sister Ethel Shullman of Sudbury, MA.
