Obituary


Helen M. (McDonald) Selig 86 years old, of Brockton, died Sunday March 7, 2010 at the Braemoor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Selig for 55 years.
Helen was born and raised in Brockton a daughter of the late John J. and Annie J. (Costello) McDonald and remained a lifelong resident of the city. A 1941 graduate of Brockton High School she also attended a Brockton business school. Helen retired from the controller’s office at Stonehill College after 16 years. Previously she had worked in the business office of Stacy Adams Shoe and waitressed at Iola Restaurant in Brockton.
Helen was a great storyteller, performer and talented pianist. She enjoyed many years at her cottage in Dennisport and traveled extensively in Europe and the United States. She most especially enjoyed time spent with her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving children James Selig and Katherine Selig of Brockton and a loving granddaughter Sage. She also leaves her special nieces and nephews Anne Hurley, Bernice Dermody, Jack Erickson and James Erickson.
Funeral Service in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton Thursday at 11 am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8 pm. Donations in Helen’s name may be made to Beacon Hospice 182 North Main Street, Fall River, MA 02720.
