Jose Soares "Hoe" Gomes, 45, of New Bedford died suddenly on Saturday March 6, 2010.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the son of Maria (Soares) Gomes of New Bedford and the late Francisco A. Gomes, he had lived in New Bedford for the past 41 years.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Gomes was employed as a court officer at Taunton District Court.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1985 to 1992, serving in Panama, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
Survivors include his mother; three brothers, Domingos S. Gomes and his wife Debbie of New Bedford, Manuel S. Gomes amd his wife Naomi of Roslindale, and John S. Gomes of Boston; three sisters, Suzette G. Lobo and her husband John, and Matilda S. Gomes, all of New Bedford, and Maria S. Gomes of Killeen, TX; three nieces and three nephews; two great-nieces and three great-nephews; and many cousins and friends.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 9 AM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial with military honors will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
