TEWKSBURY - William E. Bennett Jr., 66, died Sunday morning, Jan. 20, at Brigham andWomen’s Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Marie L. (Boudreau-Hannah)Bennett, with whom he had celebrated a 16th wedding anniversary this past July 27th.
He was born in Boston, July 31, 1935, the son of William and Irene (DesMarais) Bennett, andlived in Arlington before moving to Tewksbury.
He retired from Western Electric’s Watertown Service Center, where he had worked as atechnician. He remained a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
He served in both the Mass. Air and Army National Guard. His first enlistment was for 31 yearswith the Air Wing of the Mass National Guard, where he was discharged as a Master Sergeant. He later re-enlisted in the Mass Army National Guard for an additional 10 years.
He was a communicant of St. William’s Church in Tewksbury.
Besides his wife, he is survived by seven children, William E. and his wife Lori (McGlauflin)Bennett III of Methuen, Michael R. and his wife Linda Bennett of Fla., John C. Bennett, JoAnneM. and her husband Paul Grace all of Tewksbury, Ruth E. Ledoux of Whitefield, NH, Susan I.and her husband Gregory Brooks of Tenn., Robert J. and his wife Arati (Srinivasa) Bennett ofBurlington, five step-children, James Hannah, Patrick and his wife Lynn (Bell) Hannah all ofManchester-by-the-sea, Robert N. and his wife Teri (McGreevy) Hannah of West Gloucester,Gail and her husband Aaron Blake of Eaton, NH, John Hannah of Gloucester, three sisters,Barbara Quill of Fla., Joan and her husband Joseph Arigo of Woburn, Nancy Long of Hooksett,NH, 26 grandchildren and one great grandson.
He was also husband of the late Ruth (Hughes) Bennett, who died in 1979.
His funeral is Wednesday at 9:00 a.m from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral MassWednesday at 10:00 a.m in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte 38) Tewksbury. Visitinghours Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment in Mt. Pleasant Cem.Arlington.
