Chester C. Sullivan: From a well known Tewksbury Family and longtime member of Longmeadow Golf Club
Tewksbury: Chester C. “ Chet” Sullivan, 73 died Friday, March 5th, at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Martha “Marti” (Boyle) Sullivan with whom he celebrated 52 years of marriage.
Chester was born in Tewksbury on April 23, 1936 and was one of 12 children. He was the son of the late John D. and Mary Sullivan of Tewksbury. He devoted his life to his large extended family and friends and never missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand.
He was a life long resident of Tewksbury and graduated from Tewksbury High School and attended Merrimack College. He served in the Naval Reserves for eight years. He was very active in many local clubs and organizations including the Tewksbury Wilmington Lodge of Elks, Tewksbury Veterans Association, Northeast Building Association, 100 Club, and Longmeadow Golf Club. He served on the Tewksbury Planning Board for five years. Throughout his life he was a communicant of St. William’s Parish in Tewksbury.
Chester made his living as a homebuilder, Title V inspector and excavator. He was an avid golfer, boater, and fisherman. He loved playing cards with his siblings and friends at the Elks. He truly enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his friends and family at Longmeadow Golf Club. He especially loved spending quality time with his children and grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he is survived by six children, Karen Fraser and her husband Neal of Methuen, Donna Fosse and her husband Arthur of Andover, Terri Mumley and her husband Thomas of El Cerrito, CA, Chester M. Sullivan and his wife Ann of Methuen, Kellie Sullivan Hajjar of Tewksbury, and Kim Weisensee and her husband Scott of Pelham, NH. He was the proud grandfather of thirteen grandchildren; Derek, Jonathan, and Neal Fraser, Erik and Kayla Fosse, Ryan Mumley, Brendan and Meghan Sullivan, Jessica (Sullivan) Fitzmaurice, Kaile and Jaime Hajjar, and Shannon and Sydney Weisensee. He was also blessed with two great grandchildren, Shane and his newborn brother, Owen Fitzmaurice.
Chester was the brother of Mary E. Sullivan, Theresa (Sullivan) Toomey and her husband John, Attorney Kevin Sullivan and his wife “Peggy”, Regina Patenaude, Timothy “Teddy” Sullivan and his wife Judy, and Michael B. “Mickey” Sullivan and his wife Kathy. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Jeannette Sullivan, Betty Lothian and Marilyn Brisebois and her husband Gerard; also many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of former Tewksbury Police Chief, the late John Sullivan, Harold Sullivan and his wife Ruth, Dorothy “Dottie” Hodgson and her husband Thomas, Robert Sullivan and his wife Susan, and Edward Sullivan; and brother-in-law of the late Henry M. Patenaude.
Calling hours Monday, March 8th, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Tuesday, March 9th, at 9 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery.
