Paul S. Chargin, 64, of Mansfield passed away on Thursday March 4, 2010 surrounded by his adoring family and friends at the Epoch Senior Healthcare in Norton.
Born in Sacramento, California on May 12, 1945 he was a son of the late John and Jennie (Silverman) Chargin.
Paul grew up in California, was educated in California schools and was a graduate of the Judson Preparatory School in Arizona. Following high school he entered into the United States Air Force and proudly served his dear country for 4 years, which included 1 tour of duty in Vietnam.
Upon being honorably discharged from the service Paul went back to school and graduated from Bridgewater State College, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in education and later received his Masters Degree in education at Lesley College in Boston.
Mr. Chargin was a retired teacher and had been employed in the Town of Norton school system for over 30 years prior to retirement. He began his career as an elementary teacher and retired as a math teacher from the Norton Middle School.
A resident of Mansfield for over 25 years, Paul was member of the Massachusetts and Norton Teachers Association as well as the National Education Association.
Paul was an avid carpenter and enjoyed projects around his home. He was extremely proud of his homes beautiful library which he created. Mr. Chargin also possessed a great talent for masonry.
He is survived by devoted son Michael J. Chargin of Raynham, his cherished grandsons Mark Chargin and Mitchell Chargin both of Raynham and Michael Chargin of Clinton and his former wife Carole Chargin of South Yarmouth. He was the nephew of Reba Whitgob of California and was the uncle of Kathy Soldati, John Chargin and David Chargin, all of California and is also survived by several cousins and many friends and former teaching colleagues.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton, on Monday March 15th at 11:00 A.M.,burial with military honors will follow at 12:45 P.M.in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday March 14th from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Paul’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the patient activity fund at the Epoch Senior Healthcare 184 Mansfield Ave. Norton, MA 02766.
