TEWKSBURY: Helen G. (Slate) Leslie, age 88, a resident of Tewksbury for 45 years, formerly of Lynn, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at home, with her family by her side.
She was the wife of Chester K. Leslie, who passed away in 1990.
Born in Swampscott on May 27, 1921, she was the daughter of the late John Slate and the late Rachel (Mills) Slate.
Helen was raised in Lynn, attended Lynn schools , but graduated from Brighton High School.
Prior to her retirement , she was employed as a cost accountant by the Diamond Crystal Salt Company of Wilmington, where she worked for many years.
Helen enjoyed many activities especially cooking, completing crossword puzzles, sewing and reading.
She is survived by one son, Attorney John K. Leslie, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, but currently of Dracut; one daughter, Kathleen M. (Cote) Leslie of Chelmsford, formerly of Dracut; four grandchildren, Kimberly Donovan of Chelmsford, Kurt J. Leslie and his wife Stephanie of Milford, NH, Jonathan K. Leslie, currently deployed in Afgahnistan with the U.S. Army, and Kristen Leslie of Chelmsford; two great grandchildren, Matthew Donovan of Chelmsford and Maris Leslie of Milford, NH; two sisters, Ruth Veith of Long Island, NY and Anne Nordin of Lynn.
Mrs. Leslie was also the great grandmother of the late Shayna E. Donovan and sister of the late Eleanor Slate.
Relatives and friends will be received on Tuesday, March 9th, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St. Tewksbury, followed by a Memorial Service to be held at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Shayna E. Donovan Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Enterprise Bank, 674 Boston Rd., Billerica, MA 01862 or to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 1701.
