Obituary

WEBSTER - Jean A. Grebb, 89, passed away of old age on February 8, 2010 in Arlington, VA. Her husband of 49 years, Max G. Grebb, a longtime Webster pharmacist, passed away in 1996.

She is survived by her son, Michael D. Grebb, a retired Air Force Colonel and an employee of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence in Washington, DC, with whom she lived; her daughter-in-law, Janet Meiburger, an attorney in McLean, VA; her brother, Harry Ansorge, a retired patent attorney of New York City; and her two grandsons, Air Force Second Lieutenant Kevin Grebb, stationed at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, MA and David Grebb, an engineering student at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. Her other son, Dr. Jack A Grebb, a psychiatrist and a medical research vice-president at Bristol-Myers-Squibb in Connecticut, passed away in 2007.

She was born and raised in New York City, the daughter of Harry O. and Rosa D. (Rothschild) Ansorge. She graduated from Wadleigh High School and from Hunter College, both in New York. She later earned both a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Arts Degree from Worcester State College here and also was awarded a Master of Library Science Degree from the University of Rhode Island. She lived in Webster from 1947 until moving to her son’s home in Arlington in 2007.

She served in the Women’s Army Corps in New Guinea and in the Philippines in World War II, attaining the rank of Major. During this time, she met her future husband.

Mrs. Grebb was the librarian at Southbridge High School in Southbridge for many years before retiring in 1985. After her career in education, she served on the Webster Zoning Board for many years.

She loved outdoor activities: snow and water skiing, sailing, biking and swimming. An avid reader, she was well versed in current events. However, her greatest joy was her grandsons. This past May, she attended her grandson Kevin’s Air Force commissioning in Atlanta, and his graduation from Georgia Tech the following day at the Georgia Dome. Last October, she joined her grandson David and other family members for dinner in the University of Virginia’s famous Rotunda, which was designed by Thomas Jefferson.
