Obituary

Joseph F. “Joe” Clancy, 85, of Whitman, died March 1st in the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Helen (Minihan) Clancy.
Joe was born in Brockton, son of the late Joseph Clancy and Mary (Anzakowski) Clancy.
He worked as an inspector for the Massachusetts State Dept of Labor and Industries for 30 years.
Joe enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17 and spent three years in the South Pacific during WWII. He served from 1942-1946.
He was a communicant of the Holy Ghost Church in Whitman, a life time member of the Carpenter’s Union Local 624 of Brockton, a member Mass Organization of State Engineer and Scientists and past member of the Whitman VFW
He loved his family, taking care of his home which he built himself, 60 years ago.
Joe enjoyed watching TV and going on the bus to Foxwoods, loved entering contest and buying scratch tickets, going to the Cape Cod Canal and eating scallops at Woody’s. He was also an avid Red Sox fan.
In addition to his beloved wife Helen, he is survived by his children, Timothy J. Clancy and his wife Candice of Hanson, Daniel Clancy and his wife Nancy of Hanson, Edward Clancy of Las Vegas, NV, Kathleen Collins and her husband David of Delaware and Maureen Smith and her husband Lawrence of Raynham, his brother Gerald Clancy of Marion: his grandchildren, Timothy, Michael, Meggan and Matthew: his great- grandchildren, Kiley and Alexis.; also many nieces and nephews.

His services will be held on Friday March 5th at 9:15AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will be held in the MA. V. A. National Cemetery in Bourne, MA. at 12:45PM. Visitation will be on Thursday March 4th from 4:00-8:00PM.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Whitman Fire Department Gift Fund, Temple St.-Whitman, MA 02382.
