Obituary

ESSEX: George H. “Moe” Manninen, 82, formerly of Gloucester, died suddenly on March 1, 2010. He was predeceased by his loving wife Jean E. (Sheaves) Manninen, who died in April of 1997.
Moe was born in Pigeon Cove, Rockport, on March 30, 1927 to the late Anna (Salo) and Moses Manninen.
He was well known in the Cape Ann Community through his Plumbing and Heating business. Moe frequented many of the local coffee shops and restaurants and enjoyed having weekly lunch outings with his good friend Pam at the Causeway Restaurant.
He was known and loved for his sharp wit and dry sense of humor. He had a passion for baseball and was an avid New York Yankees fan. Moe attributed his dedication to the Yankees to his father’s acquaintance with Babe Ruth.
He enjoyed traveling within the United States and abroad. He was especially proud of his Finnish heritage and made several trips to Finland.
Moe served in the U. S. Navy Seabees during World War II and he was stationed in Okinawa. He was a member for many years of the Tyrian Ashler Acacia Lodge, A.F. & A.M.
Moe will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Jane Linsky and her husband, Steve, Judith Carbrey and her husband, Mark and his son, Walter Manninen. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Jessica (Linsky) Spinelli and her husband, Michael, John Linsky, Josephine Linsky, Jacklyn Linsky and Alura Carbrey. His surviving siblings are Robert, Sylvia, Mariam and Helen. He is also predeceased by his sister, Eleanor and brothers, Walter, Richard and David. He will also be greatly missed by his dear friends Joseph McDonald, Pamela Rossi and 3 year old twins, Margaret and Claire Turpel.
His funeral services will be held on Friday in the St. John’s Episcopal Church, 48 Middle Street, Gloucester at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Seaside Cemetery, Lanesville.
