Obituary

WORCESTER___George E. Cowan, 94, of Worcester, died Saturday February 27, 2010 in his home. His wife of 56 years, Elizabeth A. (Miller) Cowan died in 1995.

He leaves a son, James M. Cowan of Worcester; a daughter, Diane E. Cowan of North Carolina; a daughter-in-law Judy D. Mickelson of Westborough; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Carol L. Rotman and by a brother and a sister, James Cowan and Barbara Hessel. He was born in Worcester, the son of James and Florence M. (Cook) Cowan and lived here all his life.

Mr. Cowan was the President of his family's business, James Cowan & Sons, Inc., a wholesale meat company. He began working there as a young man and spent his entire working life there before retiring in 1982. He was a graduate of Commerce High School. George was a 60 year member of Montacute Lodge A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Hirams of Worcester, he was a member of Greendale Peoples Church and was a former member of the Tatnuck Island Club and several square dance clubs.

At his request there are no calling hours or funeral. After cremation the family will scatter the ashes in the family lot in Riverside Cemetery, Winchendon.
