Mary A. (George) Davin, 95 years of Brockton passed away peacefully Friday, February 26, 2010 surrounded by her children at the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital. Born in Brockton, a daughter of the late Manthala and Mantura (Mahanna) George, Sr. Mary was a lifelong resident of Brockton. For 75 years she owned and operated the Mary George Beauty Salon. She took great pride in her profession and over the years had formed many close friendships through her salon. Her customers became her special friends and in later years, weekly hair appointments were followed by luncheons at favorite local spots like Christo’s.
The oldest of eight children, Mary was a natural born leader and a constant source of advice, encouragement and support for her family. She was an optimist who believed there were no limitations in life if you were willing to work to your fullest potential. Mary was the founder and first President of the Lebanon-American National Club’s Women’s Auxiliary. She was also Chair of the Dr. William A. George Scholarship Foundation.
Mary was known for her strong faith, her love for her family and kindness to her friends. Throughout her life she quietly and without fanfare helped her friends and family. Mary enjoyed knitting and cooking; she was an avid reader who closely followed political and current events. She enjoyed weekends with her family and friends at her Centerville summer home. Above all, her greatest enjoyment in life was the constant companionship of her family and especially, the time she spent with her daughters and son.
She was the mother of Margaret F. Davin of Brockton, Deborah A. Sperre (Dr. Brian Sperre) of Marshfield and Francis P. Davin of Brockton, and sister of Lee Roukous and Manthala George, Jr. both of Brockton and the late Abraham, Dr. William, Margaret, Joseph and Michael George. She was the wife of the late Frank Davin. She is also survived by several devoted nieces and nephews, and a special cousin and friend, Dr Bahige Asaker.
