Obituary

Esther Masiello, of Paramus, NJ died on Thursday, February 25, 2010.

She was born to the late Caterina and Donato Morante on September 9, 1911 in Salle, Italy.

Esther immigrated to American in 1919 with her mother and older sister, Mary, where she resided for 38 years in Astoria, New York. She often entertained her family and friends with vivid memories of her month-long, transatlantic journey and a week spent living on Ellis Island. On her 80th birthday, she returned to the now-renovated museum and talked to the many tourists who surrounded her that day.

Esther married the late Thomas Masiello in 1932, and moved to Paramus in 1957. She was devoted to caring for her beloved husband and entire, extended family. She was an active member of the Paramus Congregational Church for 49 years. She loved to entertain, cook, sew, knit, read, tend to a large garden, and spend time with her family.

Esther is survived by two sons, Donald Masiello; Richard Masiello and his wife, Patricia; her daughter, Janet Masiello and her husband, Salvatore Lauro; her sister, Emily DiBenedetto and husband Ettore; six grandchildren and their spouses: Thomas and Sharon, Donna and Wayne; Debra and Michael; Dean and Beverly; Christine and Mario; Livia and Paul; nine great grandchildren; nieces; nephews and friends.


Friends and family are invited to arrive for visitation at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 268 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell, NJ on Sunday, February 28th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friends and family are again invited on Monday, March 1st at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home before her funeral service begins at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.
