Obituary

Karl M. Collyer, 54, of Fairhaven died February 25, 2010 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of Jennifer (Mee) Collyer and the beloved father of Evan J. Collyer of Fairhaven.
Born in Marblehead, the beloved son of Willis H. Collyer of Mattapoisett and the late Barbara R. (Walker) Collyer, he was raised in Mattapoisett before moving to Fairhaven in 1984.
Karl was well known for his involvement with the Mattapoisett boating community, offering advice and counsel to anyone who sought him out. He was employed by the Mattapoisett Boat Yard for 40 years. Karl served as Mattapoisett Harbor Master from 1976 to 1980. He was an advisor to the Mattapoisett Marine Advisory Board for the past ten years and a former member of the Fairhaven Harbor Advisory Committee. His passion for the William E. Mee Youth Sailing Program remains one of the forces of its great success. He was an honorary life member of the Mattapoisett Yacht Club.
Karl was a graduate of Old Rochester Regional High School, class of 1974.
Survivors include his wife; his son; his father; 2 beloved brothers, Michael L. Collyer and his wife Jacqueline and Craig W. Collyer and his wife Joanne, all of Mattapoisett; his mother-in-law, Joanne E. Mee of Fairhaven; his uncle, George "Buster" Evans of Mattapoisett; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was the brother-in-law of the late Billy Mee.
Visiting hours Wednesday, March 3rd from 3-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6) Mattapoisett. His Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 4th at 10 AM in the Mattapoisett Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the William E. Mee Youth Sailing Program, PO Box 947 Mattapoisett, MA 02739.
