EAST TAUNTON – Joao DaCamara, husband of the late Ilda (DaSilva) DaCamara, died peacefully at his East Taunton home on Feb. 24, 2010.
He was 94.
Born in St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Anastacio and Maria (Leite) DaCamara.
Raised and educated in the Azores, he had been a resident of the area since 1966.
A communicant of Holy Family Church, Mr. DaCamara was employed by the former Defiance Bleachery for many years, before retiring in 1978.
He enjoyed traveling and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Manuel Camara and his wife Maria of Raynham; four daughters, Zelia DeSousa and her husband Manuel of East Taunton, Maria Helena Ferreira and her husband Arthur of Raynham, Odete Moniz and her husband John of Dudley, and Joana Machado and her husband Jose of East Taunton; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Jose Camara, and was also predeceased by a grandchild, and several sisters and brothers.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Monday, March 1st at 8 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at Holy Family Church, East Taunton at 9 a.m.
Burial will be at Pinehill Cemetery, East Taunton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, Feb. 28th from 5 to 8 p.m.
