Jerry D. Harper, 66, of Osierfield, Georgia, died Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, February 27 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Rev. Robert McDearmid, Bro. Sammy Smith and Rev. Jimmy Chapman officiating. Interment will follow in Henderson Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Friday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Harper was born August 1, 1943 in Ocilla, Georgia to Bessie Paulk Harper and the late D.J. Harper. He lived in Irwin and Ben Hill counties all of his life and graduated from Gordon Military College in 1962. Mr. Harper served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War era. He was a farmer and retired owner/operator of Harper’s Enterprises, which included a trucking company, Harper’s Paint and Decorating and Harper’s Petroleum Oil. Mr. Harper was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and a former member and deacon of Westside Baptist Church. An avid hunter and fisherman he also loved horse racing. Mr. Harper was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Mr. Harper is survived by his wife: Susan Murphy Harper of Osierfield; daughter and son-in-law: Suzanne H. & Bill Daniels of Irwin County; son: Jeremy D. Harper of Tallahassee, FL; granddaughter: Hannah L. Daniels of Irwin County; mother: Bessie P. Harper of Osierfield; sister: Sylvia Harper Henderson of Osierfield as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred J. Harper.
