John A. Pacella, 85

Dateline: North Attleboro, MA

John A. Pacella, 85, of North Attleboro formerly of Foxboro and Dedham passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday February 24, 2010 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.
Born in Boston, MA on August 26, 1924 he was a loving son of the late Panfilo and Loretta (DiCenzo) Pacella.
John grew up in the Dorchester section of Boston and was educated in Dorchester schools. He was very proud of serving his country during WWII in the United States Army. He fought during D-Day II and the Battle of the Bulge and was honorably discharged from the service on December 10, 1945 with the rank of Private.
A self-employed Utility Contractor, Mr. Pacella was a founder and vice president of Pacella Bros., Inc. a company he ran with his family for over 50 years in Dedham and Plainville prior to retiring.
John was an active member of the Ancient & Honorable Artillery Co. in Boston was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Norwood. He was a member and a former president and treasurer of the Utility Contractors Association, was the founder of the Utility Contractors Association of Rhode Island and served as a regional vice president of the association in Washington.
Mr. Pacella’s other involvements included being a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion in Norwood and was a member of the Elks Club in Needham, Dedham and Falmouth.
John was a worldwide traveler and enjoyed the many wonderful times spent in the presence of his loving family. He had made his home in North Attleboro for the past 11 years and was a former resident of Foxboro and Dedham.
He is survived by his devoted daughters Loretta T. Martin and her husband Edward of Mansfield and Anna-Maria Swann and her husband Michael of Port St. Lucie, Florida. He was the dear brother of Anthony Pacella, Sr. and his wife Julia of Norwell, twins Emma Zenga and her husband Anthony of Quincy and Mary Paola and her husband Joseph of Foxboro. He was the brother of the late Querino, Arthur, Michael, Mario and James Pacella. John is also survived by his cherished 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Monday March 1st at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 420 High St. Dedham. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Roslindale.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday February 28th from 4-7 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, John’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the American Heart Association 20 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
