Etta Myrtle (Cory) Bliss (92) passed away on Tuesday, February 23rd at the Clifton Rehabilitative Nursing Center following a lengthy period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Clarence F. Bliss. She was the daughter of late Arthur Forest Cory, and Bertha Ann (Chase) Cory. She was the sister of the late Anna Pearl (Cory) Palmer, and the late Roy Earl Cory.
She is survived by two sons, Arthur Bliss and his wife Marilyn (Orme) Bliss of Hollister, CA, and Ralph Bliss and his wife Gail (Pacheco) Bliss of Tewksbury, MA. In addition she is survived by five grandchildren, Elizabeth (McCain) Schroeder (husband Brent) and Andrew McCain (wife Elif), each of Rochester, MN; Wendy (Bliss) Krulee (husband Michael) of Tres Pinos, CA; Rachel and Marc Bliss each of Tewksbury, MA; plus five great-grandchildren. Myrtle was also the mother of the late Sally (Bliss) McCain.
Myrtle was born and raised in Little Compton, and moved to Tiverton in 1939, maintaining a home on East Road for over 60 years. She was formerly active in the Little Compton 4-H, Tiverton Grange, and until recently had been a very active member of the Amicable Congregational Church and its Social Club.
She will best be remembered for her service to the Townspeople of Tiverton in the Tax Assessor’s Office for nearly four decades. During her tenure she bore witness to many changes in the Town, and helped guide the transition of the Town’s records into the age of computers. She retired in August of 1990.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations in Myrtle’s memory be directed to either the Amicable Congregational Church, Main Road, Tiverton 02878 or to the SHARE Foundation, 285 Old Westport Rd, North Dartmouth, MA 02747.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Amicable Congregational Church, Tiverton at 11:00 A.M.
Calling hours Friday 5 – 8 P.M. at the Potter Funeral Home.
Interment in Pleasant View Cemetery, Tiverton.
