Barbara A. (Newsome) Mitchell, 69, of Whitman, died Saturday February 20th in the South Shore Hospital after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of Edward Mitchell. Barbara was born and raised in New Jersey, daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy (Rowe) Newsome.
After she graduated she moved to Duxbury for 2 years and moved to Whitman where she has resided for the past 35 years.
Barbara was a directory assistance operator for New England Telephone then Verizon in Weymouth and Brockton for many years, retiring in 1998.
She was a dedicated grandmother to her grandchildren, she enjoyed ceramics, loved her dogs and all local sports, especially the Patriots.
In addition to her beloved husband Edward, she was the loving mother of Adam Mitchell and his wife Candace of Bridgewater, Robert Mitchell of California, Douglas Mitchell and his wife Judy of Halifax, David Mitchell and his wife Deborah of Wakefield and Dawn Mitchell of Minnesota., her sister Dorothy Johnson of Kingston, her beloved grandchildren, Heather, Derek, Alexys and Bradley: also several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Robert B. Newsome
Her services will be held on Wednesday February 24th at 9:15AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, follow by a funeral mass at 10:00AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman .Interment will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman, MA .visitation will be on Tuesday February 23rd from 4:00-800PM.In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, 1115 W.
