Jean M. (Wilbur) Briscoe, 63, of Norton passed away peacefully on Friday February 19, 2010 at the Madonna Manor Nursing Home in North Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of Robert J. Briscoe whom she married on July 12, 1969.
Born in Taunton, MA on August 3, 1946 she was a daughter of the late Donald and Lillian (Eddy) Wilbur.
Raised in Taunton, Jean was educated in Taunton schools and was a 1964 graduate of Taunton High School. She furthered her education to become a 1968 graduate of Framingham State College, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.
Mrs. Briscoe had worked for 5 years as an Elementary School Teacher at the Caswell School in East Taunton. She left teaching to raise her new family and serve as a dedicated homemaker to them. When they were older Jean returned to teaching and was a substitute teacher for several years at the L.G. Nourse School in Norton.
A resident of Norton for the past 38 years Jean was an active member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Norton and enjoyed her affiliations in the churches What-So-Ever Club and the Lunch Bunch.
Jeans interests included arts & crafts, reading, knitting, crocheting and painting. Her favorite times spent were those in the presence of her loving family and grandchildren and she especially relished the wonderful summers spent boating and times at the beach at the family’s beach house in Mattapoisett.
In addition to her beloved husband she is survived by her devoted children Karen M. Ellston of Norton and Robert J. Briscoe, Jr. and his wife Karin of Holland, MA The dear sister of Donna Jordan and her husband William of Chatham, Jean is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Corey Reynolds, Cody Reynolds, Lillian Ellston, and twins Trever Ellston and Noah Ellston.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday February 23rd at 10:00 A.M. in the Trinitarian Congregational Church East Main and Pine Streets Norton. Burial will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday February 22nd from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
In lieu of flowers, Jean’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Memorial Fund of the Trinitarian Congregational Church P.O. Box 2068 Norton, MA 02766.
