Robert Grady Bowen of Jacksonville, Florida, formerly of Tifton, died Friday, February 19, 2010, at Community Hospice of Northeast Florida in Jacksonville, Florida. Graveside funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 21, 2010, in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Dr. Glenn Martin will officiate with burial to follow. Bill Reinhardt, Ron Evans Jr., Sonny Martin, Steve Respess, Bill Horne and Ike Kent will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Beacon Sunday School Class of Tifton’s First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 20, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Bowen was born on March 5, 1964 in Tift County and was the son of Charles Bennie Bowen Jr. and Mary Kneece Bowen, both deceased. He was in the accounting and finance business in Jacksonville, Florida. He graduated from Tift County High School in 1982 and received his BBA in Accounting and Finance from Valdosta State University in 1987 and also had an MBA in Accounting and Business. He was active in the City Rescue Mission in Jacksonville, Florida and had lived in Jacksonville, Florida for 23 years. He had a strong, Christian faith and served as a hospital chaplain. He was loved by many and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Bowen is survived by one brother, Charles Bennie Bowen III of Atlanta; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Bowen Miller of Thomasville; two nieces, Madison Miller, Katherine Miller; and one nephew, Bowen Miller.
