Obituary


Abington – Catherine M. (Hunt) Donahue 96 a resident of Abington, and formerly of Brockton passed away peacefully at home on February 16, 2010. She was the beloved wife of 61 years to the late John F. “Frank” Donahue.

Born in Brockton on November 15, 1913, a daughter of the late Thomas and Bridget (Tarpey) Hunt she was a graduate of Brockton High School. She was an employee of Shaw’s Supermarket in Stoughton for more than 20 years, and a former resident of Chestnut Glen in Abington.

She was lovingly known as “Nan” or “Nanny” to her family. She was known for her style and grace. She had a kind and generous heart and was loved by all who were blessed to have known her.

She was the devoted mother of Maureen Murphy and her husband Michael of Abington, and the loving grandmother of Kathleen Minnock and her husband Tim of Brockton, Don Shearing and Jackie of Whitman, John Murphy and his wife Liz of Easton, Christopher Murphy and Tara Sampson of Brockton and Michael Murphy and his wife Pamela of Norwood. She also leaves 8 great grandchildren and four great-great Grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Catherine Whittemore, grandmother of the late Timothy Murphy, and sister of the late Mary Hunt and Thomas Hunt.

She is also survived by two nephews Robert Corcoran of Andover and Thomas Hunt of Carver, two nieces Carol Gillespie of Long Island, NY and Joanne DiRenzo of Raynham. She leaves a son-in-law Robert Whittemore of Brockton and a former son-in-law Roger Murphy of Raynham. She also leaves a devoted friend of many years Mary Lee Hunter.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service to be held Monday February 22 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman with a Mass of Resurrection at 9 AM in St. Bridget Church, Abington. Burial will follow the Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Visiting hours will be held Sunday February 21 from 3 – 7 PM. Donations may be made in her memory to the St. Vincent DePaul Society C/O St. Bridget Church 455 Plymouth St. Abington, MA 02351 or to Old Colony Hospice, One Credit Union Randolph, MA 02368.
