SALEM- Joseph G. Skowronski, 57, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, died Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at the Salem Hospital, Salem, MA, following a long illness.
Born in Derby, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Mary B. (Markut) Skowronski. He was raised and educated in Derby then went on to Southern State College where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1967.
From 1967 to 1969 he taught Spanish and French at Fall Mountain regional High School in Langdon, NH. From 1969 to 1971 he moved on to teach foreign languages at North Stratford High School in North Stratford, NH. from 1981 to 1991, he taught French, Spanish and Language Art and was assistant girls basketball coach and NCEA Representative at Seton Catholic High School.
From 1991 until his illness, he taught at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Cheyenne, Wyoming. While at St Mary’s, he taught French, Spanish, Preliminary Latin, World History, American History Algebra and Religion to grades 6 through 9. In 2000, he was selected for inclusion in Who’s Who Among America’s teachers, for his excellence as a distinguished educator.
Mr. Skowronski enjoyed crossword puzzles, game shows and all sporting events, especially Green Bay Packer and N. Y. Giants football games.
He is survived by two sisters, Adele D. Peruffo and her husband, Salem Fire Department Captain, Joseph J. Peruffo of Salem and with whom he was residing during his illness, Christine Woodhead and her husband William of Sydney, Australia, two nieces, Amy Lecours and her husband Maurice of Santa Monica, CA, Eleanor Woodhead of Sydney, Australia, two nephews, Anthony Peruffo of Salem, Benjamin Woodhead of Sydney, Australia and one great nephew, Donovan Lecours of Santa Monica, CA.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 3, 2003 at 11 am at the Immaculate Conception Church, Hawthorne Boulevard, Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. There are no visiting hours. A private burial service will be held in Derby, Connecticut. For those who desire, donations may be made in his memory to the Joseph G.
