Obituary

Daniel L. Guidera 84, a resident of Bellingham since 1976, died peacefully at his home Monday February 15, 2010. He was the husband of Sigrid M. (Palmer) Guidera.
Born in County Laois, Ireland, October 6, 1925 a son of the late Patrick and Ellen (Dowling) Guidera, he came to the United States in 1934, and first settled with his family in Brooklyn, New York. He was educated in New York, and was a 1943 graduate of Ft. Hamilton High School.
Mr. Guidera was the retired sales manager for the Pabst Brewing Company; he covered the states of Massachusetts & Rhode Island, where he worked for more than 36 years.
He served in the United States Army during WWII. Serving in the military police, he attained the rank of sergeant, and was awarded the American Theater Campaign, the WWII Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in May 1946.
He was a member of the Franklin Lodge of Elks, and was a communicant of St. Brendan’s Church. He also enjoyed sports and reading. He was a past member of Phil Sheridan Council #908 Knights of Columbus in Brooklyn, NY.
Mr. & Mrs. Guidera were married in the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Brooklyn, NY on November 15, 1958 and celebrated their 51 anniversary last year.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son Daniel P. Guidera of Northampton, three daughters; Diane M. Ortiz and her husband Thomas of Yardley, PA, Deirdre A. Gallagher and her husband Michael of Northborough, Delia P. Palmborg of Wrentham, two brothers; Andrew J. & Joseph P. Guidera two sisters; Maryanne Smith & Catherine Craven all of Staten Island, NY, 7 grandchildren; Andrea, Brian & Daniel Palmborg, Erin & Elise Gallagher, Julia & Jackson Ortiz.
He was also the brother of the late Eileen Hogan.
The Guidera family would like to thank and acknowledge all the kindness and care given to Daniel during his illness, by Dr. Mona Kaddis and the staff at the Dana Farber/Brigham & Women’s Cancer Center in Milford.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with military honors Saturday February 20th, at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin, (www.franklinfuneral.com) with a funeral Mass in St. Brendan’s Church 384 Hartford Ave. Bellingham, MA 02019 at 10AM.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Franklin.
Calling hours are Friday from 2-4 & 6-8PM. The Franklin Lodge of Elks will conduct a Lodge of Sorrows Service at 7PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory sent to Dana Farber/Brigham &Women’s Cancer Center at Milford Regional Medical Center 20 Prospect St. Milford, MA 01757, would be appreciated.
