On Monday February 15, 2010, Thomas Russell McPherson, affectionately known as “Russell” passed away surrounded by his family at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, New Hampshire at the age of 89.
Born and raised in the Roslindale section of Boston, he was the son of the late Mamie (Saunders) and Peter McPherson. After graduating High School he entered the US Army in 1942, and served with the 320th Combat Engineer Battalion, in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.
After his discharge, he went to work for a Boston office supply Business, Thomas Groom & Co. Where he met and fell in love with his late wife Alice M. (Labadini) McPherson. They were married on September 10, 1949 and shared fifty-four years of marriage. They moved to Hudson, NH to be close with there family.
Russell and Alice raised their family in Medford, where they were active parishioners of St. James Church for over fifty years. He was an avid reader and enjoyed his family vacations on Cape Cod, and spending time with his 7 grandchildren.
Russell is survived by his four children, Donna MacLaren and her husband Ron of Londonderry, NH, Cheryl Guiney and her husband Patrick, Patricia McPherson and Thomas McPherson Jr. all of Nashua, NH. His grandchildren Courtney Giuliano, Kristen, Ronnie, Andrew and Kyle MacLaren. Nicole and Patrick Guiney. His loving sister Helen White of Florida, Godson Rev. Romanus Cessario OP, St. John Seminary, Boston. Also several loving Nieces and nephews.
Along with his wife, Russell was predeceased by his brothers Robert and Daniel McPherson, Sisters Gertrude Cessario and Dorothy Burke
His funeral will be held from the McLaughlin – Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, on Thursday, February 18, at 10 a.m. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St. Medford at 11 a.m. Visiting Hours Wednesday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with military honors at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
