Obituary

Maurice "PeeWee" Gonsalves, 69, of Carver died Tuesday September 30, 2003 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham after a long illness.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late James and Mary (Reis) Gonsalves, he lived in New Bedford and Carver for most of his life.

Mr. Gonsalves was formerly employed as a construction worker for the Laborers International Union Local 721 in Brockton. He had worked on numerous contruction projects in the Southeastern Massachusetts area, including UMass Dartmouth and the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant in Plymouth.

Mr. Gonsalves was a member of the American Legion H.F. Govoni Post 387 in Kingston and the Cartwell Motor Club in Carver. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include his longtime companion, Jackie Lloyd Rodriguez of New Bedford; his stepmother, Janie Gonsalves of Carver; 2 brothers, Nathaniel Gonsalves of New Bedford and George Gonsalves of Halifax, Mass.; a sister, Louise Texeira of Wareham; 2 aunts, Alice Mendoza of Pennsylvania and Ida Amado of Plymouth; and several nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Joseph Gonsalves, John Gonsalves, James Gonsalves, Jr., Richard Gonsalves, and Vivian Power.

His Funeral Service will be held on Friday October 3, 2003 at 10:30 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday October 2, 2003 from 4-8 PM.
